Sassy Lil Skirt

I snagged this vintage taffeta fabric from the interior design firm that I worked at (beFORE it went out of business), and I just knew it had to become something cute and totally wearable for fall.

I was inspired by Camille's handmade creations and, with a few twists of my own, I made this supereasymcpeasy, elastic-waist-band-eat-as-much-cake-as-you-want, full and flowy skirt.

Behold!

The waistband looks so much better than I thought it would, but for some reason I decided to accessorize with a summer scarf, tied in the back.

How do we feel about the length, my friends? I just sort of played it by ear when I sewed the hem, and it was initially about 6 inches longer than shown. Looked a little too "holiday party" at that point, and I think I like it much better now.

I'm hoping to wear it with black tights when it starts to get cooler, and I have many more to make and sell at the West Bottoms Urban Bazaar that I am doing in November!

P.S. Megan at BeachBungalow8 asked for pictures of our grey walls and you can see little snippets of our family room greyish-blue in the photos above. I FINALLY took after pictures of our grey bedroom today, as well, so hopefully I will be posting them manana! Stay tuned, Megan!

To see more beautiful grey walls check our her recent post!

Dude...when did you get so crafty?! Or have I just been in the dark? This is completely adorable! I dig the length, too.

I love it! You are quite the little seamstress. The length is perfect - any longer and I think it would look costume-y. Great job!

Oooh, shiny! You look lovelissimo! You have the perfect figure for this skirt and your gams are to die for. Nice handiwork - can't wait to see what else you come up with.

Hooray! Sounds like we're in agreement on the length!

Bee, my craftyness knows no limits...

Jozettey, the shoes are SO old, from Urban, but I have gotten scads of use out of them and they are so comfy!

Amanda & BWP, there's more where this came from! I love to make things (and I love it even more when they don't look homemade), so stay tuned!

I love it! That is so cute! So, I wonder- did you take sewing classes or figure it out on your own or have someone teach you? I am pretty crafty and stole my mom's sewing machine but haven't taken it out of the box yet. Any pointers on where to start?

Natalie - Thanks! You need to break that baby out! The easiest thing to start on would be a throw pillow, but try practicing sewing lines on scrap fabric before you start. My mom taught me a bit when I was little, but pretty much everything else I have just figured out for myself or followed a pattern! You can do it!

Karey - does that mean you think of me as a doughnut??? I don't even like krispy kremes. Shame, huh? I miss you, too, and xoxo, and HURRY RIGHT BACK.
